About Gordon Robertson

I am a hearing impaired disabled Air Force veteran. While enlisted in the Air Force, I attended several technical schools related to Atlas F missile systems. These schools consisted of studies in electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics and a few top secret classified subjects.

Gordon RobertsonUpon discharge from the Air Force, I went to work for a while as draftsman/designer of conveyor systems and pallet loading machinery in St. Louis and Detroit. Following that, I moved into design of linear and rotary transfer machines, multi-spindle drill heads, wire drawing equipment and other special machines.

After going completely deaf, I was able to attend Trinidad State Junior College school of gunsmithing, under a vocational rehab program. The TSJC gunsmithing school is the oldest and one of the most respected gunsmithing schools in the world.

While attending gunsmithing school, I built my first Farquharson from bar stock under the direction of Leonard Bull. This took approximately two years, since it had to be done while working on various other school projects.

Elective classes in bronze casting and knife making, as well as previous experience, provided the necessary skills to build a home shop metal casting system. This varied background (over a period of ten years after graduation) led to the development of the Farquharson action kit.

Slow sales, and difficulties encountered by customers in building the Farquharson action ... even from a kit... provided the impetuous to create an action that would be much simpler to build. CNC classes taken at TSJC along with knowledge gained with the development of the Farquharson kit was a great aid in developing the molds for the new action.

Since graduation from TSJC, I have spent my time developing numerous products related to the firearms and machinst trades.

These include:

Not being satisfied with the plain and simple leather sheaths made during the knife making classes at TSJC led me to teach myself the art of leather carving.

My artistic skills were expanded somewhat by summer NRA classes at TSJC in engraving, scrimshaw and stock carving. The stock carving class turned out to be pretty simple as all I had to do was apply my leather carving to the carving of wood.

Leather and wood carving skills, being so similar led directly to the idea of producing actions with cast in custom artwork. This, along with three years of development, led to a simple mold design that allows the customer to have whatever is desired cast into the action at very low cost.
