Stabilized materials and Services:
General information

We now offer a wide range of stabilized products and services.

Materials include various woods (some of which we haven't seen advertised anywhere) bone, antler, ivory and others.  We are in the process of creating a number of exclusive manufactured "woods" and other materials.

In addtion to the various materials, we manufacture grip caps, buttplates, gunstocks, knife handles and other items.  We strive to produce products that are not available anywhere else.

Pehaps your kind of "cool" toward the multilayered laminates currently available?  If so, we can work with you to create just about any type of layering you desire and using the materials and colors of your choice.   A "checkerboard" layering is not even out of the question.

If you happen to have a material you want stabilized, we offer stabilizing services with very short turnaround times...generally just a day or two depending on workload.  This is great if it's something you need done in a hurry.

The stabilizing process has several advantages:   It eliminates the normaly warping and cracking that usually takes place as wood expands and contracts due to humidity.  The wood is strengthened considerably by the process.  Final finishing is kept to a minimum.  Generally, there's no need to apply any other finsihing materials.  After stabilizing, the wood is very easy to machine and most chipping and other damages that might occur when machining unstabilized wood is greatly reduced or even eliminated.  For best results when machining stabilized wood climb milling is recommended.  Stabilizing small and/or irregular pieces that most people would simply toss out reduces waste and might even save money in the long run. While we have been speaking here mainly of stabilizing wood, these same points apply o other materials as well.   It is a pretty simple mater to layer stabilzed materials into a homogeous "plank" or other shape and your not limited only to layering wood.

About the only "disadvantage" that we can think of is that it increases the weight.  Many shooters consider this to be a disadvantage.  However, we consider it to ba an advantage.  The extra weight moves the center of gravity of the firearm closer to the shooter for better balance.

Cost for custom stabilizing service CANNOT be determined in advance.  Cost is based on how much resin is used during the stabilizing process.  This is determined by weighing the item before and after stabilizing. The amount of resin actually used will also vary with the porosity of the item being stabilized.

For best results, larger items such as gunstocks, guitar bodies, etc. the item should be machined or otherwise manufactured to approzimately final size before stabilizing.  this will reduce cost plus insure better penetrationof the stabilizing resin.

Items to be stabilized should have a moisture content of 6% or less.  We wiil kiln dry your item for you if necessary, but cannot assume any responsibility for cracks or warpage that might occur during the drying process.

We also offer custom machining and bonding services of stabilized items.

Please contact us for further information regarding your custom project.  We do not have a super big shop, lots of personnel and high overhead, so we belive you will find our prices farily reasonable.
