All new Wyvrn Action Kits

All new Wyvrn Action Kits

October 18, 2009

The original Westley Richards falling block action has been completely redesigned with several objectives in mind.  The first was to provide a means of installing commercial barrels using a break open design without having to modify the barrels in any way. Secondly, to provide a stronger action with locking lugs not prone to bending or breakage.  Third, to retain the look and feel of the original Farquharson action.  These objectives have been achieved with the added benefit of providing an action that is less complex and easier to build.

To achieve these objectives, numerous changes were made.  The long travel (approximately 70 degrees) under lever and associated mechanism was replaced with a side lever providing the look of a side lever Farquharson.  The breech block was completely eliminated. The new side lever, looks a bit different and only travels about 20 degrees as opposed to the nearly 60 degrees travel on the Farquharson. Additionally, the side lever may be mounted on either side.  Optionally, an extra lever can be added for ambidextrous operation.  For the purist, this side lever can easily be made to look more like the side lever used on the Farquharson...but it would no longer be ambidextrous.

The safety has been replaced with an ambidextrous version taken from the Dragon Slayertm.  In fact, the safety levers are interchangeable between all our actions.

The tang mounted stock screw has been replaced with a thru the stock style for greater rigidity.  This method also allows the installation of classic rifle, thumbhole rifle or even pistol stocks using the same mounting hole.

This new action may be built as a single or double barreled action.  It may be built with concealed hammers so as to look more like the Farquharson, or with exposed hammers for those desiring the added convenience.  Light weight and exposed hammers, should allow the user to compete in long range black powder or silhouette shooting events.

Prototypes of  this action are under construction.  Molds and castings kits will be produced as soon as possible.  Current projected availability is sometime in spring of 2010.

Features of this new action are as follows:
